Mathews golf wins first match

The Mathews High School golf team celebrated its first win of the season against West Point last Thursday. Chase Ambrose shot the lowest of the day with a 44, followed by Adam Dustin with a 49. On Monday, Mathews competed in the Tidewater District meet at Piankatank Golf Course, Hartfield, where Ambrose scored a 91 and Dustin scored a 116. “For our match against West Point, I was very happy for these guys to end their regular season on a good note with a win,” said Coach Jake Jackson. Jackson said he was also proud of Ambrose and Dustin at the district match since both golfers struggled during the first nine holes, but bounced back to fight for the final nine. Mathews golf will compete in the region competition on Oct. 1 at Golden Eagle Golf Club in Irvington....
