Mathews boys fall to Chargers, 4-3

In a hard-fought game last Thursday, the Mathews High School baseball team dropped a 4-3 contest last Thursday on the road at Middlesex High. The Chargers scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings in the low-scoring contest. The Blue Devils didn’t get on the scoreboard until the top of the sixth, picking up the team’s first run, and adding two more in the seventh. Hit leaders for Mathews included Noah Wright, Blake Hunley and Justin Jones with singles and Danny Hogge with a double. In spite of the loss to end the regular season, the Blue Devils will advance to the first round of the Region 1A tournament next Thursday....
