Mathews boys drop to 0-3 in basketball

The Mathews High School boys’ varsity basketball team suffered its second loss of the season to the Northumberland Indians, 55-38, on Dec. 9. In the loss, freshman Ryan Bacelar led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by junior Tae Legette with 12 points. Freshmen Jordyn Cosby added six points, Tremaine Greene with four points; senior Ja’marri Henderson, two points.

The JV boys also lost to the Northumberland Indians, 60-36, on Dec 9. In the loss, freshman Cameron Matthews and eighth grader Blake Hunley led the team in scoring with 12 points apiece. Freshman Seth James (six points) and Colin Moore (four points) rounded out the Blue Devil scoring.

On Tuesday, the MHS varsity boys fell to 0-3 in the season with a loss on the road to the King William Cavaliers, 71-53.
