After finishing its undefeated regular soccer season with a 2-1 win over the Beach FC Explosion on May 15, the Baystars Marlins traveled to Virginia Beach over the weekend to compete in the Coastal Kickfest Soccer Tournament.
The Marlins finished the event second overall, falling in the championship round to Beach FC Nebula, 2-0.In the Marlins’ first game of the tournament, they outscored the VA Rush Blue Angels, 3-1. Emmy Baker, Ava Santellanes and Elsie Williams each scored for the Marlins during the first match while Kaitlyn Hearon recorded an assist.
The second game saw the Marlins tie with the Beach FC Warriors with a score of 2-2. Baker and Santellanes once again netted a goal apiece. Despite tying, the Marlins secured the tournament’s #1 seed heading into the semifinals.
The semifinals saw the Marlins swat the Kickers Dragonflies, 2-1. Baker for the third game in a row scored a goal with the second coming from Isabella Harrell off a penalty kick.
