Main Street Committee moves ahead with Phase 2 plans

Mathews Main Street Committee Chair Bette Dillehay told county supervisors during Tuesday’s board meeting that the committee has reached an agreement with the design firm VHB to do the preliminary work for the second part of the Main Street Enhancement Project.

She said the deadline for the application for funding construction of the project is Oct. 1, but that a resolution from the board will be needed before that so the project can go forward.

In the interest of transparency, plans for the project will be available for review by the board and the public over the next few months, said Dillehay, including street widths, turning radii, crosswalks, parking and other details. Hard copies of the plans will be housed at the library and the Mathews County Planning and Zoning office, while a digital copy will be accessible online, she said.
