LOUISE HUGHEY ADKINS POE BESSOM

Louise Hughey Adkins Poe Bessom of Gloucester Point, died July 2, 2013 at Walter Reed Convalescent Center, Gloucester.

She was born in Danville, Va., to the late Willie Thomas and Mary Ann Dix Hughey.

Louise was a graduate of George Washington High School, graduated from the former Stratford College with an Associate Degree, a graduate of Memorial Hospital with a certificate in medical technology. She was a graduate of Madison College with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from the University of North Carolina with her Master’s Degree in public health. She retired from the State of North Carolina Public Health Department.

Louise enjoyed many hobbies, gardening, knitting, cooking and antiques. She loved her dog, Buck; loved her family and friends, liked to socialize and will be remembered as a true Southern belle.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robey Jennings Adkins.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Lewis Bessom.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 12, 2013, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Leemont Cemetery, 1200 Claiborne Street, Danville, Va.
