Local pickleballers win medals in tourney

Local pickleballers took home medals in last weekend’s JOOLA ’22 Pickleboo Classic. They include, from left, Rick Shutt and Dave McCormick; Lanell Jarvis and Jill Smith; and John Jarvis and Carter Vrooman.

The JOOLA ’22 Pickleboo Classic was held last weekend in Highland Springs and Henrico County, drawing 466 players from several states. Local competitors from Gloucester and Mathews made a strong showing, bringing home several medals.

Rick Shutt of Hayes, and Dave McCormick of Williamsburg, captured gold, placing first in the Men’s Doubles, 3.5 skill level, 65+ age group.

Lanell Jarvis of Foster, and Jill Smith of Gloucester, won silver medals for Women’s Doubles, 3.0 skill level, 55+ age group.

John Jarvis of Foster, paired with Carter Vrooman of Gloucester, to win silver in the Men’s Doubles, 3.0 skill level, 19+ age group.

John Jarvis also teamed up with 15-year-old Hailey Humes of Virginia Beach, to place third, earning bronze medals in Mixed Doubles, 3.0...
