Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The county supervisors elected by the citizens have failed them. They have allowed a pompous zealot, a county employee, to assume dictatorial control of their most important responsibility—the education of our children.

After almost two years of wrangling and millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money, our children are still in temporary quarters, and not a block or brick has been laid for a new facility. The request for an extended water line, plans for additional facilities on the property, interest in the retail value of Page properties (which he said are owned by the school board), his ignoring the citizens at meetings, his use of his 74 advisors led by his RRMM advisor for his ad hoc committees, clearly define his intentions.

We do not need glass walls and large, open areas to build a showplace for Virginia. Enough is enough. It is time for our elected supervisors to face their responsibilities and hire unbiased auditors to investigate activities to date, evaluate the benefits of locating the school on the Page property or relocate and begin construction.

We cannot afford the present leadership. We do not need to build for the future. Gloucester student population has been declining. We need a school now. A school could be planned to allow an addition, when needed.
