Great news from Gloucester: financing has been arranged and construction is set to begin on the new Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue firehouse on Main Street. It’s been a long time coming. We will be so happy to welcome this. The county government has made this happen. The dedicated volunteers, so vital to the health and welfare of this county, will have an up-to-date station with the space they need. Ditto in Mathews. Work is well underway converting the former Boys and Girls Club into a new and efficient Station One, close to schools, businesses and a thickly-settled residential area. As in Gloucester, the county government made it happen. We can go back in the records to the years that our counties did not have any sort of organized fire protection. Devastation resulted in homes and businesses when an unintended spark found kindling.
