Letter: SWAT needs to revamp its procedures

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

A home invasion is just that, a home invasion. It doesn’t matter if it is a thug or a paramilitary team of cops playing soldier. SWAT was intended to be the extreme answer to the extreme situation in protecting the people from violence. Most of the time that is where it is utilized; however, this home-invasion thing where armored personnel carriers and a platoon of men playing soldier invade a pot grower’s home is not protecting the people.

This defeats the purpose of why SWAT was created in the first place. Maybe it is time we create a law that eliminates this paramilitary home-invading nonsense. This is life, this is America and these are American people at home. Protect them, SWAT, and stop scaring the hell out of children and killing innocent people. In the least we need to revamp completely what SWAT is and what it is there to protect.
