Letter: Shining a light on our Hometown Treasures

Many thanks for publicizing the unique museums that Mathews and Gloucester have that highlight the proud history of these counties. It often takes out-of-town visitors to reveal the opportunities that our residents may not realize exist.

All rely on volunteers, who give much time, energy, input and heart into providing interesting displays, events and venues. Museums encourage visitors to learn through seeing photos, models and artifacts that have been loaned or donated by generous people who are proud of their heritage and want to share this with others.

I’d like to clarify one statement in the article about the Mathews Maritime Foundation’s museum: Our first effort to improve the site at 482 Main Street was to replace the leaking roof. The materials were provided by Mathews County, the owner of the building, as this was absolutely necessary. We appreciated their support.
