Letter: Route 602 a hazard for motorists

Over the past year or so, I have contacted several county and state offices concerning the condition of Route 602 (Burkes Pond Road) and the numerous trees that align that roadway. This road connects Routes 14 and 198 and has considerable traffic each day.

I think this road is potentially hazardous to those who travel it because of the trees. Most are on one side of the road, which has no shoulder. From the edge of the road to the tree line is approximately 8-10 feet. Some of the trees are dead and leaning toward the road. Many others are leaning at a significant angle toward the road with no solid root base. I think strong winds or storms could cause some of them to come down.

The condition of the roadway between Route 14 and Burkes Mill Drive (a distance of approximately a half-mile) has been patched for years and is in terrible condition, though still drivable, and needs to be totally resurfaced. I have driven around Gloucester County lately and no...
