Editor, Gazette-Journal: I was able to attend Sunday’s groundbreaking for new Station 1 in the courthouse. I played a very small role as a member of Gloucester EDA. It was a very proud moment for me and many others. This new station has been a long time coming. I think back to those who have left us that were looking down that afternoon; Andy James, Wrayfield Oliver, Billy Clements, Fred Sterling, Al Booker and many others. So many that served the fire and rescue for many years. Where would we be without our first responders. I hope those Gloucester citizens who opposed this location for the new station will come together and put their negative feelings aside and support these construction efforts.
