Letter: Marching Dukes need new duds

The Daffodil Festival Parade was wonderful. A parade is always great when you have a marching band performing in the parade. Gloucester High School Marching Band is a seven-time Virginia Honor Band. Not only did they sound great but they looked good in their marching uniforms.

You may be surprised to know that these uniforms are in their 12th year of use! As a band parent, I know how much work it takes to keep these uniforms looking good. Uniforms are to be kept in the garment bags until just before a competition, football game or parade. Afterwards, they are immediately taken off and hung back on the hanger and put back into the garment bag. Then they are returned to the uniform room and are inspected for any damage. This requires much work from the band members, as well as dedicated band parents, each time the uniforms are in use at marching competitions, football games or parades.
