Letter: Main Street paving work needs fixing

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Why have the majority of iron utility access covers within the roadway on Gloucester’s Main Street not been raised to be flush with the surface of the road?

Most of the metal covers are anywhere from 1” to 1.5” too low. They literally have become potholes we must navigate around! We have one at the intersection of DuVal and Main streets that is almost 2” lower than the roadway.

Another less difficult defect is the many “blobs” of asphalt that must have dropped from the paving equipment that have now hardened to create small raised “bumps” within the travel lanes.

I feel that the county supervisors need to express and demand correction of these workmanship defects before the contractor is paid and released from responsibility.
