Letter: Lack of industrial property in Mathews decried

I was not impressed with supervisor Janine Burns’ partial apology for the Mathews Comprehensive Plan when she stated "it is not binding" at the forums, or when she said that opposition to the plan was using "scare tactics." This is a very important issue that is going to hurt property owners and citizens of Mathews County.

Four years ago, I went to the Mathews County Planning Office to find industrial property. My desire was to build a facility like the one I had in Northern Virginia. My business employed over 300 people as welders, fabricators, engineers and office workers. I thought the county would welcome the chance to provide high-paying jobs to the citizens of Mathews. However, I was informed that there was limited industrial property in Mathews and none was available for purchase at that time. I was told to take my jobs elsewhere. The zoning was binding and they would not work with me to build a facility.
