Letter: Gloucester schools handled budget cuts brilliantly

As a parent of a Gloucester High School student, I want to applaud the innovative and courageous efforts of Dr. Kiser and all of the employees of Gloucester County Public Schools. When faced with extreme budget cuts, GCPS was able to make changes that no other schools systems in this area were bold enough to do. While there may be downsides to cutting twenty days from the schedule for some, I think it was a brilliant plan. This saves the school system much needed money and does not compromise student academics. In addition, the change to the grading scale is yet another intelligent and bold move.

As an experienced teacher in another school district, I can tell you that GCPS takes an approach that considers all stakeholders; they are not looking for instant fixes to issues.
