Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I have been living and working in Mathews County for over 50 years. We are all saddened by the events surrounding the finances of our local volunteer fire department. Now is not the time to point fingers or pass judgment. To quote the only perfect man who ever lived, "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone."

Where would we be without the dedication and commitment of these fine young people, not only in Mathews, but also in Gloucester and Middlesex?

I urge all of our citizens to step up to the plate and lend your financial support to these organizations during their annual fundraising campaigns. I personally am tripling my support.
