Letter: G-J criticized for abortion issue omission

Wow! Witnessed right in our own community no less: The Gazette-Journal exhibited the same media blackout of abortion issues that goes on nationally!

In the Senatorial forum held in Mathews on Oct. 6 with Republican challenger Richard Ottinger and incumbent Democrat Lynwood Lewis, there was a substantial exchange with the Democrat candidate about his relationship to the abortion issue, but not a single word about it appeared in the paper’s extensive forum report on page 17A of its Oct. 15 edition.

Sen. Lewis, confronted with his own campaign finance report showing a Planned Parenthood contribution of $77,835 (his biggest contribution by far, aside from the Democrat Party), first denied the “contribution,” and then refined his answer to say the Planned Parenthood fund didn’t actually “write him a check” but was pushed to admit he was the intended beneficiary of their activities (Campaign finance information can be found at w...
