Lancaster group to hold Fall Soup Sale fundraiser

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society will hold a Fall Soup Sale fundraiser with Lancaster stew, bean and ham soup, and chicken noodle soup by the quart for $12 each.

Pre-orders are required by Nov. 1 and pickup will be Saturday, Nov. 14 from noon to 3 p.m. at the LVHS museum in Lancaster Court House. People can also sponsor “quarts for the community” for a $12 donation and LVHS will distribute soup to local first responders and homebound seniors.

The Soup Sale takes the place of the organization’s annual November Oyster Roast, which is canceled due toCOVID-19 concerns.

Event co-chair Betty Pettyjohn described the group’s “signature” Lancaster stew, as a combination of chicken, tomatoes, corn, lima beans, and herb seasonings.

All proceeds support the LVHS museum, library and public programs with the mission to preserve, interpret, and share local history and genealogy. According to Pettyjohn, buyers can drive through to pick up their soup or they can park and visit the...
