The Gloucester High School varsity girls’ basketball team ended regular season play this week, losing all but one game. The Lady Dukes will advance as the sixth seed in the region and will face Hampton away on Friday in post-season play.
Gloucester fell to Heritage, 44-35, last Thursday night at home. Autumn Cookson was the top scorer for the Lady Dukes with 24 points. Other scorers of the night include Aaliyah Smith-Boone with five points, Rylie Williams with three, Chloe Davis with two and Kate Vannoy with one. In rebounds, Smith-Boone had the most with 13, followed by Williams and Davis with 11 each, Vannoy with nine, Cookson with five and Avery Watkins with one.
Smith-Boone and Williams achieved two assists each and Watkins had one. In steals, Cookson had six, Watkins had three, Williams had two and Smith-Boone had one. Williams also had three blocks, followed by Smith-Boone with one.
The Lady Dukes fell to Hampton, 77-16, last Friday night away. Vannoy and Watkins were the top scorers for Gloucester with four points each, followed by Davis and Smith-Boone with three apiece and Williams with two.
Vannoy had the most rebounds with eight, followed by Smith-Boone with six, Davis with five, Williams with three, Watkins with two and Cookson with one. Alesha Williams, Watkins and Rylie Williams had one assist apiece. In steals, Cookson had two and Rylie Williams and Smith-Boone had one each. Cookson and Davis were also recorded as having one block each.
Gloucester picked up a win against West Point Monday night on the road, beating the Lady Pointers, 47-10. Rylee Amaral was Gloucester’s top scorer with 18 points, followed by Cookson with 15, Rylie Williams with 10 and
Alesha Williams and Watkins with two points each. Smith-Boone had the most rebounds with eight, followed by Vannoy, Watkins and Rylie Williams with seven each, Amaral with two and Alesha Williams with one point.
In assists, Alesha Williams, Cookson and Watkins had three assists each and Vannoy and Amaral had one each. Cookson and Watkins also had five steals each, followed by Amaral and Smith-Boone with three each, Alesha Williams and Rylie Williams with two each and Vannoy with one. The Lady Dukes will travel to Hampton High School Friday night to face the Lady Crabbers, beginning at 5:30.
