The Gloucester High School varsity softball team had another undefeated week of game play, coming away with wins against Manor, Hampton and Denbigh high schools.
The Lady Dukes beat the Manor Mustangs, 22-0, on the road last Wednesday, March 20. Autumn Cookson pitched a one-hitter and struck out 13 batters.
Alivia Bruce had three hits with a double and six RBIs. Samantha Carlton had two hits and drove in four runs for Gloucester. Kaia Hutton had two hits with a double and an RBI and Cameron Palas had two hits and drove in a run.
Hampton
Gloucester traveled to Hampton last Thursday to beat the Crabbers, 20-0. The Lady Dukes scored seven runs in the second inning after a scoreless first inning. Bruce pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 12 batters with six consecutive strikeouts.
Hutton had three hits with a double and an RBI to lead the Lady Dukes offensively. Cookson achieved two hits with a triple and four RBIs. Carlton, Coral Santos and Alexis Dishman all had two hits apiece with two RBIs each.
Denbigh
The Lady Dukes hosted Denbigh at home Monday afternoon, defeating the Patriots, 16-0. Bruce pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven batters. She also added a two-run homer in the first inning. The Lady Patriots only had one base runner through the whole game.
Hutton had three hits, including a double and an RBI to lead Gloucester offensively. Cookson recorded two hits and an RBI. Lilly Hogan had two hits with a triple and an RBI, while Carlton achieved two hits.
Gloucester will return to the field after spring break with an away game against Warwick on April 9. The team was scheduled to play its second game against Denbigh High Wednesday afternoon, weather permitting. The Lady Dukes have an undefeated record of 7-0.
