Lady Devils post two 20-0 wins

The Mathews High School varsity softball team earned a pair of 20-0 victories this past week, defeating the visiting Charles City Panthers last Thursday and beating West Point on the road. Charles City Morgan Crittenden went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in six runs to lead the Lady Devils. Christiana Wood was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 and holding the Panthers scoreless in five innings on the mound. In addition to Crittenden, Avery Thomas, Ashton Hudgins and Chelsea Armistead also multiple hits. Armistead picked up three RBIs. West Point Crittenden pitched a complete-game shutout for Mathews, as the Lady Devils crushed the Pointers on Tuesday. Aly Jackson went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a three-run homer in the first inning, and a double in the fourth. The Devils scattered 13 hits in the win, with Wood and Armistead also getting multiple hits. Mathews played error-free defense in the win. On Tuesday, the MHS baseball and softball teams will hold their Senior Night games...
