The Dave Marchant Memorial Virginia Veterans Tournament was held on Sept. 16 at Piankatank River Golf Club in Hartfield, hosted by the local Fourth Degree Order of the Knights of Columbus.

The event, the ninth in a series, honors Marchant, who led the assembly at the time of his death in 2020. Proceeds benefit the all-volunteer Virginia Veterans Services Foundation which in turn partners with the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. Together they address the needs of those who have served and their families.

Tournament director Al Langer reported that the event was very successful because of strong player turnout, loyal sponsors and donors, a great golf course, and eager volunteers. He thanked the community for its support and praised the PRGC staff for again providing such outstanding service.

Award winners were:

“A” Flight: First place—Greg Hunter, Dale Watkins, Dave Keller, John Rippy; Second place—Jim Goforth, Charlie Beard, Larry Collier, Irvin Shackelford; Third place—Bill Brandl, Paul Finn, Rob Shipman, Ross Hamilton.

“B” Flight: First place—Greg Rogers, Johnny Fleet, Birdseed Miller, Ray Haskins; Second place—Don DeLagrange, Sandi DeLagrange, Larry Lloyd, Kay Lloyd; Third place—John McCormack, Craig Naden, Fred Hagerty, Bob Mower.

“C” Flight: First place—Ed Lipinski, Jimmy Walsh, Doug Geddes, Steve Saunders; Second place—Bill Puttman, Clayton Neil, Jimmy Johnson, Fritz Sitterding; Third place—Steve Raschke, Sandy Mattson, Larry Espiritu, Joe Cronin.

Longest drives: Bill Puttman, Vicky Gunn.

Drives closest to the center line: Steve Raschke, Christy Pitts.
