The Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team improved to 7-0 last Thursday with an 8-0 victory over visiting Menchville. Megan Crowley had five goals in the win and goals came from Alexis Adams, Lily Perger and Jordan Scott.
Scoring assists were provided by Lady Dukes Avery Smith, Hannah Hamay, Madison Gross, Christina Riva, Abbie Thornton, Ella Poulson and Adams. The Dukes outshot the Monarchs, 25-0, and earned 10 penalty corners while giving up only one.
The high-pressure defense, led by Meadow Spears, Lauren Harvey, Adams, Smith and Scott, kept Menchville from reaching the 25 yard line.
The Gloucester jayvees went 3-0-1 and were co-champions of the Kelly King JV Invitational Field Hockey Tournament last weekend on the Powhatan and Old Dominion University turf fields.
The Dukes bested a previously unbeaten Norfolk Academy team, 2-0, to begin tourney play. Hamay and Crowley each scored with assists coming from Aubree Dorsey, Adams and Poulson.
