JV field hockey ends year with 16-0 record

The Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team closed a 16-0 shutout season with a five-goal blanking of host Patrick Henry last Thursday.

Eighth grader Hannah Symonds scored the first two goals, bringing her season total to 19. Peyton Sutton, Kylee Hall and Hailey Pena-Hawk also scored. The Gloucester jayvees finished the season with zero goals scored against them.

The junior Dukes posted a 6-0 win over Warhill on Oct. 20 at Wanner Stadium in Williamsburg. Symonds had a hat trick in the victory and goals game from Emma Kadel, Bri Culotta and Pena-Hawk.

Gloucester pulled out a 3-0 win at Prince George on Oct. 14. Mason Welsh, Peyton Sutton and Chloe West got the scoring done, with West’s goal marking the team’s 100th of the season.

The jayvees also posted a 6-0 win over visiting Menchville on Oct. 5. Sutton scored twice for the Dukes and goals came from Mary-Ashton VanFossen, Caroline Klink, Hall and Symonds.
