Although details of the current budget are still being finalized following Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s signing of the state budget last month, preparations are already underway for the 2024-2025 budget in Mathews.

The Mathews County School Board and Board of Supervisors will hold a joint budget work session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the J. Murray Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School.

The school board’s regular monthly meeting will be held the following Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the same time and in the same location.

Plans are also underway for a legislative tour of the county schools on Thursday, Nov. 9, beginning at 9 a.m., two days after Election Day. Among those expected to be in attendance is Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Montross), a school board spokesperson said.
