Johnson wins Most Outstanding Player award

Gloucester High School student athlete Chandler “Channy” Johnson has been named the Peninsula Sports Club’s Most Outstanding Player for Field Hockey. Johnson is team captain for the Dukes and also competes at a national level in the Team USA Field Hockey NEXUS program.

A junior at Gloucester High School, Johnson has been playing field hockey for 11 years. She said her cousin played so she was always around field hockey growing up. She said an aspect of hockey that gravitated her to the sport is that is gives her the opportunity to rely on her teammates as well as shine individually.

Last season with the Dukes, Chandler helped her team reach the state quarterfinals. With NEXUS, her team won the National U-19 title in 2021.

The Most Outstanding Player award is given based on coach recommendation. She said that head coach Joe Dougherty has been coaching her for years and was grateful that he nominated her as the deserving athlete for the award.
