JOAN R. PRYOR

Joan R. Pryor of Hayes, died Aug. 10, 2013 following a long illness.

She had been on kidney dialysis for 20 years. She was born on Aug. 24, 1937 in Medford, Ore., to Lloyd and Patti Bennett. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Loren of Hayes, Va.; sons, Randy (Jill) of Virginia, Ryan (Jeri) of Florida; granddaughters, Cierra and Shasta of Florida, and Jalen and Kiley of Virginia; sister, Kathy of Oregon, and numerous cousins in Oregon and Canada.

She was an accomplished artist, studying with Marine Artist George E. Lee. She trained for 10 years in martial arts and was the first woman in Southern Oregon to earn a 2nd degree Black Belt in Judo and Jujitsu.

She became a Ham Radio Operator in 1978 (KA7AZS), advancing to Extra Class. She served for eight years as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for the Prospect, Oregon, Ambulance Service. She retried from the Forest Service in 1993 after 12 years of service.
