JEANNE MARIE BARTRON

Jeanne Marie Bartron, 68, of Gloucester, died peacefully on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her family. Jeanne was born in Hampton, Virginia, on February 21, 1958, the daughter of Thomas Nottingham Bartron and Jean Freeman Bartron. She graduated from Hampton High School and briefly attended Virginia Tech, and after Tech, worked at Cheatham Annex, providing produce to USA bases both overseas and locally.

Jeanne’s passions were baking, bulbs and cross-stitch. She learned to bake with her grandmother in Hampton and continued the tradition of supplying wonderful desserts for family gatherings. Sharing her inspired culinary creations with friends gave her great joy. She always had something sweet to contribute to any gathering. Her Christmas “goodies” were a family tradition.

Creating a beautiful yard with hostas and bulbs, ordered from Brent and Becky’s, also filled Jeanne’s free time. She planted a wide variety of daffodils in her yard in Gloucester, ensuring that there were early, middle and late bloomers for ongoing beauty in the spring. Her love of plants and people led her to many years of part-time work at Smith’s Florist. Being at Smith’s fed Jeanne’s spirit as much as her other passions, and she treasured her lifelong friendships with her coworkers there.

When not in the kitchen or yard, Jeanne spent time making beautiful, detailed and intricate cross-stitch for herself and others. Her handiwork adorns many homes in the area.

Jeanne is survived by her sisters, Anne Douglas Bartron and Marynell Ivey Willets (George); by her niece, Allie Hutcherson Owen (Kenny), and her nephew, Matthew Freeman Ivey. She will be missed greatly by both family and friends, all of whom have treasured memories of time spent with Jeanne.

Special thanks to Gina, Ashley, Angie, Katie, Carol, and Jurlyn, who lovingly cared for Jeanne during her final weeks. They are truly angels on earth, and we cannot thank them enough.

Family and friends will gather from 1-3 p.m., June 8, 2026, at Brent and Becky’s in The Chesapeake Lounge. Please wear bright colors and smiles as we celebrate and remember Jeanne.
