James Colie Hudgins Sr., 92, of Hartfield, a native of Mathews, passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017.

He was a retired tankerman for Gulf Oil and Exxon Oil and a longtime employee of Hurds Hardware in Deltaville.

Colie was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  He was a member of Lower United Methodist Church, Donovan Lodge #75 A.F & A.M., and a member of Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Survived by his wife, Virginia “Tillie” Hudgins; children, Sheila H. Scales, Marsha H. Collier (Warren), Jamie Hudgins; grandchildren, Jennifer S. Hill (Bob), Michael Collier (Rhonda), Patrick Scales and Jake Hudgins (Amy), and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday in Lower United Methodist Church, Hartfield. Interment was in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Friday.
