JACKSON CRISPIN SIMMONS

Jackson Crispin Simmons passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at the age of 88. 

Although Jack was born in upstate New York in 1926, he returned to the family home in Mathews as a young teen and spent the remainder of his years in the place he always felt most at home, Mathews, Va.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 68 years, Mrs. Louise Hall Simmons; his son and daughter-in-law, Cris and Landa, and two grandchildren, Harrison and Laura.

He served in the South Pacific during WWII as a Machinist’s Mate, Petty Officer Third Class (USN), and retired from the U.S. Civil Service in 1983 after 33 years at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, Va. He spent his retirement years residing at his home on his beloved Put-In Creek in Mathews.

Jack loved life and had several dedicated passions including service to his church, Westville Baptist, as a Mason, and as a musician.

Jack learned to play the guitar as a child and played semi-professionally or just for fun with various groups around the local area his entire active life. Equally as important in his life was his 60 plus years of affiliation with the Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Virginia. A member of Oriental Lodge #20 in Mathews, he was a Past Master of that Lodge and also served on the Committee on Work for the Grand Lodge of Virginia.

An active member of Westville Baptist Church in Mathews for over 50 years, Jack previously served as Chair of the Board of Deacons and was named Deacon Emeritus for his years of devoted service.

He also served as a past flotilla commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary unit in Mathews.

A Masonic service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, followed by visitation with family and friends until 8 p.m.

Funeral services were held at Westville Baptist Church in Mathews on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015. at 2 p.m.
