Hearing tonight on rules regarding marinas, boatyards

The Gloucester County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7:30 tonight in the colonial courthouse on allowing the use of marinas and boatyards in certain zoning districts.

Planning and zoning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz said the proposed changes to the county’s zoning ordinance will allow marinas and boatyards as a conditional use in the Bayside Conservation (C-2), Rural Countryside (RC-1), Rural Conservation (RC-2), Suburban Countryside (SC-1), and Single Family (SF-1) zoning districts.

These uses are currently allowed only as special exceptions, requiring review and approval by the Gloucester Board of Zoning Appeals, in the C-2, RC-2 and SC-1 districts, Ducey-Ortiz said. Planning staff presented a report about the marina/boatyard situation during the commission’s March meeting. At that time, staff said that most, if not all, marinas in Gloucester County are currently nonconforming in their zoning district.
