Hearing tonight on comp plan revisions

The Gloucester Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on revisions to the county’s Comprehensive Plan at 7:30 tonight in the colonial courthouse.

The plan is required by state code. The current plan was adopted by the county supervisors in 1991, and there have been several revisions and additions through the years.

The plan, or at least part of it, is required to be reviewed every five years. A comp plan is a planning tool for the county, and is intended to help provide orderly growth over the next 20 years or longer. It spells out the community’s existing resources, as well as provides guidance for future projects like a new school or park.

One of the proposed revisions is to allow more density in the village areas, which are located along Route 17 and served by public water and sewer, according to Anne Ducey-Ortiz, Gloucester’s director of planning and zoning. Also, the plan encourages businesses to locate in the Development District.
