Hayes native Mitchell Delusa has learned firsthand the important role the General Assembly plays when it comes to guiding and directing the state.

Delusa, a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Pharmacy, has been interning under Del. Keith Hodges (R-Urbanna) during the 2017 General Assembly legislative session. Hodges, a pharmacist by trade, said it has been a pleasure having Delusa on board.

A 2009 graduate of Gloucester High School, Delusa said he has always been interested in science, and studied biochemistry research as an undergraduate at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. “I enjoy talking to people,” he said. “I didn’t want to get stuck in a lab, so I thought pharmacy would be a good combination for me.”

Though his clinical rotations as a pharmacy student have taken him to a number of different settings, his latest rotation was at VCU in the in-patient psychiatric unit, which reinforced so much his desire...
