The 44th annual Guinea Jubilee will be held Friday and Saturday at the Abingdon Ruritan Club grounds, 8784 Guinea Road, Hayes. The festival opens tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m., with arts and craft vendors and food booths.
The official jubilee kickoff will begin at 6 o’clock with welcoming remarks, recognition of the jubilee queen and her court, announcement of the grand marshal, and national anthem performed by Tracy Hill. Entertainment by 70 South will begin at 7 p.m. at the main stage. Friday’s festivities will end at 10 p.m.
Saturday’s activities start early with the Guinea Jubilee 5K & Kids Crabby Fun Run registration beginning at 7 a.m. at Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station 3 on Mark Pine Road in Bena. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m., while the one-mile fun run will start at 8:30. The cost is $25 for the 5K and $10 for the fun run. Both races will end at Buck’s Store Museum. Online registration for the races is open now on the Guinea Heritage Association website.
