GOP selects Ryan McDougle as nominee for 26th District Senate of Virginia race

On Friday, the Virginia Senate Republican Caucus announced that Republican nominees have been selected in 23 of the 40 Senate of Virginia districts being contested in the Nov. 7 general election, including Sen. Ryan McDougle of the recently redrawn 26th District.

The 26th District includes all of Gloucester and Mathews counties, as well as New Kent and portions of Hanover, James City and King and Queen counties.

Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr. (R-James City), who currently represents much of this district, announced back in February that he would be stepping down at the end of his term.

McDougle, 51, of Mechanicsville, has served in the Senate of Virginia since 2006. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from James Madison University. McDougle later earned a J.D. at Marshall-Wythe School of Law, The College of William and Mary.
