GMHS Oyster Roast to be held at Werowocomoco

Werowocomoco on the York River will be the setting for Saturday’s second annual Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society Oyster Roast.

Attendees will enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters (roasted and on the half shell), provided by John and Tina Philips; seasonal soups from Karen and Gary Ward of Olivia’s in the Village; assorted breads and desserts, as well as wine and beer from Randy and Meagan Morgan of Naked Mountain Winery. Laura and Lloyd Hubbard of Rappahannock Rentals are providing the tent at no cost. There will be plenty of other food for those who may not enjoy oysters.

Music will be provided by Richmond favorites, Colin and Caroline. History buffs can explore the property (once the home of Chief Powhatan), guided by Dr. David Brown, co-director of The Fairfield Foundation, Professor, College of William and Mary; Dr. Martin Gallivan, Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, College of William and Mary; and Dr. E. Randolph Turner III, State Archeologist, Virginia Department of Historic Resources (retired).

The event will take place from 2-5 p.m. at the home of Lynn and Bob Ripley (3051 Ginny Hill Road, Gloucester).

Oyster Roast tickets are $100 per person. Proceeds from all tickets sales will benefit the animals of GMHS. To attend, or for more information call GMHS at 693-5520, ext. 307 or contact Community Programs Manager Kristen Solada at volunteer@gmhumanesociety.org.
