Gloucester wrestlers place second in Class 4A Regional Tournament

The Gloucester High School varsity wrestling team was the runner-up in Saturday’s Class 4A Regional Tournament at Phoebus High School.

The Dukes fought hard through the preliminary and the semifinal rounds as they had six athletes make it to the finals. They ended their night with five regional champs, one runner-up, two third-place finishes, one fifth-place finish and one sixth-place finish.

Aiden Sheesley (113 lbs.), Corey Skay (138 lbs.), Karl Dean (144 lbs.), Kenneth Hamilton (165 lbs.) and J.R. Jones (HWT) all came home with individual championships in their respective weight classes. Makai Scatliffe (175 lbs.) placed second. Third-place finishes came from David Lewis (120 lbs.) and Christian Hartz (126 lbs.). Hayden Fox (190 lbs.) finished fifth overall and Grayson Orlando (132 lbs.) placed sixth.

In the finals, the Dukes won five of the six head-to-head matches. The scores came very close and the Dukes ended the night with 203.5 points, falling to regional champs Phoeb...
