Gloucester Union Relief Association honors senior members at banquet

More than 75 members of historic African American churches in Gloucester were recognized Saturday with a dinner at The First United Baptist Church, White Marsh.

“This is the first time we have done this,” said the Rev. Stevens Burrell, president of the host Gloucester Union Relief Association of Missionary Baptist. “I’m very pleased with the turnout,” said Burrell, who is pastor of Gleaning Baptist Church at Dutton.

The afternoon included an opportunity for the seniors to mingle and catch up with longtime friends. Then the long-anticipated dinner of fried chicken and a table full of other delectable foods awaited guests.

The formal program included opening music by Lee Rice, scripture by Deacon Levi Foster of First Morning Star Baptist Church, prayer by Deacon Joe Rice and chant by Lee Rice.
