Gloucester High School varsity softball players tacked on another win by beating host Menchville, 11-2, last Thursday to improve to 7-1 going into spring break. The Dukes fell behind, 2-0, but rallied for 11 runs on 11 hits in the final four innings for the win. Kristen Greene (5-1) gave up two early runs before throwing six shutout innings. She gave up five hits, struck out five and walked two. She also contributed two hits and four RBIs. Gloucester got only a single from Emma West through the first three innings before turning it on in the fourth. Laura Tobin reached base on an error and advanced on a walk by West. Both runners advanced on a ground-out before Greene singled to knot the score at 2-2. In the fifth, Tobin singled and Jessica Hogge reached on an error. West then hit a booming double off the center field fence to score Tobin. Hogge later scored on a sacrifice fly from Tori Mielnik to put the Dukes up, 4-2.
