Gloucester resident wins big on ‘Price is Right’

Elizabeth Barrett, a Gloucester resident and respiratory therapist at Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital, made it to the last stage of “The Price is Right,” winning more than $40,000 in prizes.

Barrett and her husband John Barrett were in California last October visiting their son and daughter-in-law in San Diego when they decided to travel to Los Angeles to attend the Oct. 9 morning taping of the popular TV game show.

The couple arrived at the studio at 8:30 a.m. and was ushered into a line of about 35-40 people to participate in a group interview conducted by the show’s co-producer Stan Blits. He asked individuals in the group different questions, like “Where are you from?” and “What do you do?” Before taking their seats in the audience, they turned in their phones and received nametags.

Barrett was the fourth contestant to be picked to “come on down” from the 290 audience members. She won a charcoal grill, a set of kitchen knives, a kettle pizza, a pizza cutter and a dough...
