The Kiwanis Club of Kiln Creek Pickleball Fundraiser Tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday in Newport News. On Saturday, Men’s and Women’s Doubles divisions played, and on Sunday, Mixed Doubles took place on the recently renovated pickleball courts on the grounds of Kiln Creek Golf and Country Club.
Over 140 participants and 86 teams played throughout the weekend, which organizers hope to make an annual event. Gloucester Pickleball and Kiln Creek Picklers worked together to put on one of the biggest pickleball events in the region. The newly formed Kiwanis Club of Kiln Creek had volunteers help to make the weekend a success.
“The turnout for this event just shows how popular pickleball is in the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula,” said Gloucester Pickleball Club founder Carlos Morales. “Players came from as far south as Virginia Beach to Richmond, and one player came from Kentucky. These types of events could be held in Gloucester if we had such a venue to host them.
