Gloucester Museum prepares for busy October

“We have tons of stuff coming up in October.”
The Gloucester Museum of History is hosting four big events this month, starting with an observance of the 244th anniversary of the Battle of the Hook at Abingdon Elementary School Friday afternoon, according to Historic Resources Supervisor Robert Kelly.
“We’re just excited to commemorate this important battle,” said Kelly.
Tomorrow’s commemoration ceremony for the “largest cavalry battle of the entire Revolutionary War” will begin at 2 p.m. with Tom DeRose and Alex Gilliam giving a historic fife and drum performance.
Kelly, who is also vice president of the American Friends of Lafayette, will provide the welcome. Soprano Laura Heydt, music teacher at Ware Academy, will sing the national anthem of the Republic of France, followed by a performance by Abingdon fourth graders of the U.S. National Anthem.
