Gloucester man arrested, charged with drug trafficking through the mail

A 42-year-old Gloucester man was recently indicted and arrested for alleged involvement in marijuana trafficking through the U.S. Postal Service.

On March 2, a Gloucester grand jury indicted Christopher Scott Riley on one count of possession with intent to distribute more than five pounds of marijuana. He was arrested March 10 and has since been released on bond with a trial date scheduled for April 13.

Capt. John Schick Jr. of the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office said GSO narcotics investigators, Tri-Rivers Drug Task Force agents and U.S. Postal Service inspectors intercepted a suspicious package in the mail in January which they suspected contained marijuana.

Schick said further investigation of the package found it contained more than five pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $22,400. He said the package was sent to a third party address on Hickory Fork Road.
