Fifty-six newspaper issues from Gloucester spanning the years 1869-1898, and one advertising circular from 1883, are now reproduced and bound, and ready for public inspection.

Compiled by Bill Lawrence of Gloucester, the ancient newspaper copies were found at the College of William and Mary, the Library of Virginia, and the Virginia Historical Society. Lawrence had the originals scanned through cooperation of these institutions. He had the scans printed and compiled into three large volumes, which are available for inspection at the Gloucester Library, Gloucester Museum of History, and the Gazette-Journal.

The collection includes issues of the Gloucester Herald from 1869-74; The Tidewater Liberal, 1882-84; Gloucester Mail, 1884-86; the Mercury, 1886; the Tidewater Virginian, 1886-89; and the Gloucester Letter, 1886-89. Also included is a Christmas ad circular, the Santa Claus Advertiser, put out by W.H. Richardson of Iron Clad in 1883.
