Gloucester board adopts specifics of GHS final exam policy

The Gloucester County School Board adopted its policy on final exams for Gloucester High School students after tweaking exam exemptions during a work session last Thursday at the T.C. Walker Education Center.

All GHS courses will have a required final exam, either written or an alternative assessment, which will make up 10 percent of the final grade. Although the exams are required, students can earn exemptions.

For all students in grades nine through 12, and eighth graders enrolled in algebra or geometry, an exemption may be earned by passing the corresponding SOL test with a minimum score of 400. 

To be exempted, students must also have no more than 10 absences (20 for first-block classes) and have a course grade of 80 or higher. There is no exemption from final exams for courses that have no SOL test for students in grades nine through 11.
