GHS track teams have busy week

The Gloucester High School boys’ and girls’ track teams had a busy week, competing in the Peninsula District meet last Wednesday, April 13, and taking part in the Kellie Wells Classic on Saturday.

District Meet

Several Dukes placed in the top 10 of their events at the Peninsula District meet, which was held at Todd Stadium in Newport News.

For the girls, Mya Baker placed seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.82. Emily Shipe took ninth in the same event, clocking in at 1:07.47.

In the 800-meter dash, Hannah Broadwell (JV) and McKayla Clark finished in fifth and sixth places, respectively, with times of 2:57.70 and 3:02.53.

In the 1600-meter run, JV athletes Hannah Broadwell and Hannah Symonds placed in third and ninth with times of 6:31.41 and 7:14.16, respectively. Varsity runner Hailey Penahawk took 10th with a time of 7:36.20.The girls’ 4x400 relay team took fifth with a time of 4:49.33.

Jaida Peet placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 52’9”.
