The Gloucester High School varsity softball team defeated Manor, Hampton, Churchland and Denbigh, holding each of the teams to no runs this past week of game play.
The Lady Dukes defeated the Manor Mustangs, 25-0, at home last Wednesday, March 26. Autumn Cookson pitched her second shutout of the season, striking out 10 batters. She also contributed a triple and a two-run home run, while driving in four RBIs.
Hannah Horsley and Cameron Palas each had three hits apiece and combined for eight RBIs. Horsley hit a double and a three-run home run, while Palas added a double.
Tessa Carteret, Alexis Dishman and Lilly Hogan each contributed two hits, while Carteret and Dishman added two RBIs.
Hampton
Gloucester hosted Hampton last Thursday, defeating the Crabbers, 29-0. Cookson and Avery West combined to throw a no-hitter.
West struck out all seven batters she faced and added a double and four RBIs. Cookson pitched six strikeouts and added three hits and four RBIs.
Carteret had four hits for all four at-bats, contributing a double and five RBIs. Palas added three hits and a double and drove in four runs. Palas, a junior, went over the 100-RBI mark in her career during the game. Zakai Coley also added two hits in the win.
Churchland
The Lady Dukes traveled to face Churchland Monday afternoon, defeating the Truckers, 14-0. Cookson pitched a complete shutout game, yielding only one hit and recording 16 strikeouts. She also had two hits for four at-bats, contributing a double and two RBIs.
Palas and Kyndall Sales each had three hits and combined for three RBIs. Horsley had two doubles and three RBIs, while Bryanna Tayman contributed two hits.
Denbigh
Gloucester defeated the Denbigh Patriots, 31-0, Tuesday afternoon on the road. Statistics were not available at press time. The Lady Dukes will host the Patriots this afternoon.
