GHS girls fall to Cox in state playoffs

The Gloucester varsity field hockey team’s season came to an end on Tuesday night, losing to Cox High School, 4-3, in a shootout in the first round of the VHSL Class 5 state tournament. The game, which was held in Virginia Beach, went scoreless through all three periods and two overtimes.

“They played like champions and never gave up. I am extremely proud of them all,” said head coach Joe Dougherty.The Dukes went an impressive 15-1 in the regular season and 1-2 in the playoffs and placed second in the Region 5B Tournament last Thursday, losing 2-0 to Nansemond River in the championship game
